Hyderabad to get a bigger convention centre Soon!

HYDERABAD: In a bid to make Hyderabad a “nice destination” for meetings, incentives, conferences and events or exhibitions (MICE), another big convention centre with 10,000 sq mt space is all set to be opened at Hitex in Madhapur in the city in September this year.

The proposed centre will accommodate 10,000 people while the existing convention centre at HICC can accommodate only 7,000 people. The bigger convention centre will also fetch some revenue to the state government. The existing convention centre HICC belongs to Dubai-based Accor group and the new centre at Hitex will be managed by an Indian company.

The main objective of the government to plan the biggest convention centre is to grab the multi-billion dollar MICE industry. “Hyderabad is a nice destination for meetings, incentives, conferences and events or exhibitions (MICE) and travel market,” tourism secretary B Venkatesham told Express on Thursday.

Recently, the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) searched Goa, Chennai, Gujarat, Bengaluru and some other places in the country for conducting a conference on Global Water Security for Agriculture and Natural Resources from October 3 to 6, but finally selected Hyderabad as the venue.

“If a conference to be attended by more than 3,000 delegates is to be held, Hyderabad is the best place as it provides facilities on a par with international standards at a cost lower than what it would cost in other global cities ,” Venkatesham said. Hyderabad is also better placed as far as the climatic conditions and connectivity are concerned. “That is why Hyderabad is hosting three or four big international conferences and 10 to 15 national conferences every year,” the state tourism secretary claimed.

All the international conferences relating to medical and health sectors have been hosted by Hyderabad in the past two years.
